  • A couple married at the Manhattan courthouse faced some unexpected chaos as Trump was arraigned.
  • One couple told Insider that “all we could do was laugh” when they realized the timing of their appointment.
  • Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges, the first time an ex-president has been criminally prosecuted.

A couple getting married at Manhattan’s courthouse had their big day interrupted by some unexpected chaos: former US president Donald Trump’s arraignment.

The historic event brought hoards of protestors, politicians, and media to the area, creating a circus that few would have anticipated on their wedding day.

High school sweethearts Chandler Dean, a speechwriter at West Wing Writers, and Carolina Treviño, a product manager at Planned Parenthood, planned to get legally married at the Manhattan courts on Tuesday before their formal ceremony later this month.

Dean said that he and his fiancée were “dumbfounded by the coincidence” when they realized that former president Donald Trump’s appointment at the courthouse was the same day as theirs.

“Then later we read reports that it would be happening at 2:15 p.m. — just an hour before our courthouse appointment — and all we could do was laugh,” he told Insider. “We just wanted to get this logistical step out of the way and have a nice, intimate, low-key moment before the whirlwind of a big wedding. It’s hard to imagine a more outlandish scene happening just around the corner.”

Dean posted a TikTok about getting married on the day of Trump’s arraignment featuring screenshots of a CNN report and an email from the Manhattan City Clerk’s Office confirming their appointment.

“My fiancée and I picked quite a day to get married at the Manhattan courts,” Dean captioned the video, which went viral with over 300,000 views.

“We were able to navigate past the protestors and the counter-protestors without a whole lot of trouble, and once we got in front of the City Clerk building, it was a really wholesome scene — several other couples were getting married today and honestly, the presence of all the reporters and passers-by kind of made it feel a little more special,” he said.

“Everyone who noticed that folks were getting married were really kind and congratulatory,” he added.

Trump was in court to answer an indictment brought by a Manhattan grand jury after months of testimony from witnesses and an ongoing investigation by the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

Prosecutors were looking into whether Trump falsified business records relating to a “hush-money” payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels made days before the 2016 election.

Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges, the first time a former president has been criminally prosecuted.
