NYC Mayor to Trump Supporters: ‘Control Yourselves’

New York City mayor Eric Adams (D.) on Monday gave a stern warning to supporters of former president Donald Trump who are planning to protest in the city.

“Control yourselves,” said Adams, who admitted the city is unaware of specific threats. Supporters have gathered in front of Trump Tower ahead of the former president’s arrival for his Tuesday arraignment, where he is expected to face charges surrounding his alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Adams added that New York City is “the safest large city in America” because it “follows the rule of law”

But burglaries, grand larcenies, felony assaults, and other crimes spiked 22 percent in 2022 under Adams’s watch. Robberies in stores have gotten so bad that Adams encouraged owners to ban face masks. Crime increases are pushing police officers out of the force, as they flee the “unfixable” crime epidemic.

The city will not allow “violence or vandalism of any kind” from Trump supporters, Adams said Monday. “New York City is our home, not a playground for your misplaced anger.”

Adams called out Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.), who said she would visit New York City on Tuesday, saying she “is known to spread misinformation and hate speech.”

He told Greene to “be on your best behavior.”

Last month, New York City agreed to dole out millions of dollars to Black Lives Matter protesters who were corralled by police during June 2020 George Floyd protests.
