Donald Trump has been criminally indicted in Manhattan. The grand jury in the case voted today to indict Trump, per multiple major news outlets. The charges include at least one felony count, and are still under seal but will be announced in the coming days.

It ended up taking a little longer than originally expected, after Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg decided to bring back David Pecker as a rebuttal witness to Trump’s witness Robert Costello. But this outcome, in which Trump has been indicted, was entirely expected. District Attorneys don’t take the grand jury process that far in a high profile case, only to give up.

And, as I’ve previously spelled out, the case was already well past the threshold that a grand jury needs to vote to indict. In spite of Trump’s bizarre assertions yesterday, there was never any real doubt that the grand jury would agree to indict him once the DA asked them to.

So now things will proceed in the same way that we were expecting before the rebuttal witness delay. The DA will announce Trump’s indictment in the coming days; perhaps as soon as tomorrow. Trump will be given a short deadline – perhaps early next week – to voluntarily surrender himself for arrest, processing, and arraignment.

Donald Trump has been criminally indicted. This is really happening. And it’s just the first of three jurisdictions that are going to end up indicting him, each on successively more serious charges. Here we go.
