Whenever it comes to election season, you might find yourself saying things like “How come we can’t organize like the Republicans?” – it sounds innocuous, but you’re really praising the GOP when you say this nonsense, because it indirectly makes their side sound like the more alluring one. People in the middle who don’t pay attention to politics generally find the more decisive sounding side appealing – but the fact is, right now, Republicans are far from organized. Whenever they are, it’s because they manage to stay on the same script over an overall terrible message.

With Donald Trump’s indictment seeming imminent, the GOP is working on an appearance of unity but they know there’s not much they can do. While the former guy’s plan is to turn up the heat with his base to riot over any potential indictments and hope to intimidate the prosecutors and jury involved in the case, his party has seen enough to know that it’s not a viable option that can save him – and they know he only cares about himself.

That’s why we’re seeing a lot of prominent Republicans warning against interfering with the New York DA’s office like Marjorie Taylor Greene, while McCarthy is sticking his head directly in the flames, as he owes his speakership to the former guy. We’re seeing Republicans reap the bigotry and recklessness that they’ve sowed for the last four years – all they know to do is attack – but they also know they aren’t prepared to deal with the consequences. They’re cowards and weaklings and we shouldn’t aspire to be anything like them.
