FBI agents said the entity did business with the Caribbean country

(Waka News. Puerto Ayacucho, 08/02/2019) .- A group of FBI agents raided this Wednesday, February 6, the facilities of the San Juan International Bank (BSJI), accused of carrying out alleged transactions with Venezuela.

In this way, the officials indicated that the entity violated the sanctions previously established by the United States government to any person or organization that conducts business with the Caribbean country.

His spokesman Luis Rivera Santana, mentioned that the agents had a court order with which they could link accounts with those people or entities that are in the list of those involved. Also, Rivera said that the authorities suspect about the use of the bank to launder the funds of the people or companies that are in that list.

“The United States is in a war against money laundering. Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are battlegrounds in this war, ”said Douglas Leff, an FBI agent in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

It was known, according to the respective investigations, the security agencies have assured that there has been no arrest. This procedure consisted of the collection of all printed and digital documentation. After this investigation, contacts were found in Venezuela and the United States, it was also found that the bank performed these services to clients from other countries.

Bank director Héctor Vázquez Muñiz said in a statement that the bank has taken appropriate measures to comply with the sanctions imposed on them. Finally, I mentioned that the bank is collaborating with the investigation opened by the FBI. In this regard, he said that the investigation will be resolved once the security agency has examined the aforementioned documents to prove whether or not there was any link with Venezuela.
